//Experience Design & Temporary Architecture
 2023, Domaine de Boisbuchet - France

In collaboration with Carla Rotenberg
In a workshop led by architect Sam Chermayeff, we designed a temporary sauna from found, leftover materials, building from and for the surrounding environment.

Stripping down the “sauna” concept to its essence, the result becomes a metal frame with a transparent exterior, allowing it to blend into the surroundings while creating an immersive experience. Exploring the tension between public and private, visitors are forced to share a tight, skin-to-skin space, erasing personal boundaries while remaining in full view.

/The Experience
Bathers go into the sauna through a fold in the tarp, closed shut with the help of a metal clip. Inside the tight space, four wooden stools are waiting to be occupied.

Meanwhile, a stack of medium sized rocks are heated in a large fire nearby.  After reaching sizzling temperature, these are carefully carried and rolled onto a pit inside the tent. The pit’s entrance is covered to stop the heat from escaping. Finally, bathers can pour water infused with essential oils onto the rocks, allowing the burning, scented vapor to fill the space.
